Makassar Class

Category
Marine
The Makassar-class LPD was developed in response to Indonesia’s urgent need for an amphibious transport capability following the 2004 Tsunami disaster. The Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) response was limited as it did not have the ships to deploy relief forces and equipment to difficult-to-access areas. It is rectifying this situation with the acquisition of five ships. The LPD was also sold for export to Peru and the Philippines. Myanmar has also recently commissioned a Makassar-class type LPD in 2019. The vessels have
been built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), Dae Sun Shipbuilding & Engineering and PT Palindo Marine.
