The Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense (MND) awarded a NT$4.635 billion ($156 million) contract to the CSBC Corporation to produce two amphibious warfare vessels to replace the ageing ROCS Hsu Hai, a former US Anchorage-class dock landing ship. The first LPD being acquired under Project Hung Yun began construction in May 2019 and is due to be commissioned in 2022. The LPD is designed for disaster recovery and amphib-ious

operations.
