The Admiral Grigorovich-class (Project 11356) frigates are being built for the Russian Navy to provide a modern ASW and anti-air warfare capability to the fleet and replace the ageing Burevestnik-class frigates. It was part of the Russian Navy’s plan in the early 2000s to recapitalise the surface fleet and expand global operations. This has been in part reversed by the 2018 plan that now seeks to focus on smaller ships and

submarines.
