The Mogami-class 30FFM frigate, previously commonly referred to as the 30DX for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), is intended to replace the existing Asagiri- and Abukuma-class light destroyers, which are rapidly ageing. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has been contracted to build the ships with Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding (MES) as a subcontractor.
