The Istef class, previously known as the Istanbul -class or I-class frigates, for the Turkish Navy, originated under the MILGEM project to establish a complex naval shipbuilding capability in Turkey to build their own frontline surface warships. First called the TF-100 frigate, the four Istanbul-class vessels follow the four Ada-class corvettes that were the first to be built under MILGEM. A further four to eight T-2000 air defence frigates will
