Two Martadinata-class frigates are also known as the Perusak Kawal Rudal-class (PKR) frigates. They have been built for the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL), giving it a sorely needed boost in maritime capability following decades of neglect. For a country that is an archipelago, it has been a long time coming. The frigate programme has been used to boost warship production capability at the Indonesian shipyard PT PAL.
