Four 4,000t cutters were designed and are being built for Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration (CGA) to improve the service’s constabulary and maritime surveillance capabilities. The contract for the four frigate-like vessels was signed in July 2018 by the CGA and local shipbuilder CSBC Corporation. The first vessel was launched in June 2020 and named Chiayi. However, after starting construction, design changes were implemented, and the cutter now has a displacement of over
5,000t.
