India’s Talwar-class (Project 11356) frigates for the Indian Navy have been built in Russia based on the old Soviet Navy’s Krivak-class frigates and delivered to India. The ships have been built in two batches of three, but now a further two ships from Russia are under construction, with another two ordered and built-in India to make a class of ten ships. The new vessels are based on the Russian Navy’s new Admiral Grigorovich-class frigates. The frigates are armed with the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and

have a unit cost of around $625 million. They first entered service with the Indian Navy in 2003.
