Arleigh Burke Class (Flight III)

Category
Marine
The Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are the workhorse of the USN, nicknamed the ‘greyhounds of the sea’. Known as the DDG 51 class, the ships have been built primarily by Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (GDBIW) and Northrop Grumman and have been in production since 1988. Flight III is the last of the four flights being built for the USN, with the first ship beginning construction in 2018 at HII’s shipyard. 14 vessels are currently planned to follow the Flight I, II and IIA
variants which began entering service in 1991.
