Arleigh Burke Class (Flight IIA)

The Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are the workhorse of the USN, nicknamed the ‘greyhounds of the sea’. Known as the DDG 51 class, the ships have been built primarily by Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) and General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (GDBIW) shipyards and have been in production since 1988. The Flight IIA variant consists of 42 vessels in service, with a total of 47 to be built by HII, GDBIW and also Northrop Grumman. The first vessel entered service with the USN in 2000. Flight IIA is being followed by
the Flight III variant, which began construction in 2018.
