The Buyan-M-class (Project 21631) corvettes being built for the Russian Navy are an enlarged missile-carrying variant of the Buyan-class (Project 21630) corvettes. A total of 12 Buyan-M-class vessels are to be constructed by Zelenodolsk (A M Gorky) shipyard. Nine ships have entered service, with the first in 2014. The vessels have been designed as a river-sea corvette, with a carbon fibre hull and stealth features to be used to protect Russia’s offshore EEZ. The final vessel is due to enter service in
2023.
