The Al Zubarah-class corvette results from the optimisation of vessel size, performance, transport and support capabilities, designed for roles including escort, support, relief, interdiction and patrol operations. The vessels are able to operate in open seas missions and can manage protracted helo operations. The Qatari Ministry of Defence signed a contract in 2016 for the construction of four corvettes with Fincantieri. The first was delivered in October 2021, the remaining ships are due to be delivered by the
end of 2023.
