The Carl-Gustaf M3 is the third generation of the 84mm shoulder-fired, recoilless antitank gun which was first fielded by the Swedish Army in 1946. Since then, the Carl-Gustaf has been acquired by the armed forces of more than 40 countries. The M3 version of the launcher, introduced in 1991, has reduced weight and improvements for urban operations. Designated the M3 Multi-role Anti-armour/Anti-personnel Weapon System (MAAWS), it is in service with US Special Operations
Command.
