General Dynamics (GD) unveiled the Lightweight Medium Machine Gun (LWMMG) in May 2012. Intended to eliminate the gap between 7.62mm and 50cal weapons, the LWMMG uses the .338 Norma Magnum cartridge to accurately engage targets at ranges up to 1,700m. Despite its more powerful cartridge, the LWMMG has a similar recoil profile to a 7.62mm machine gun thanks to a recoil mitigation

system.
