In September 2010, Remington secured a competitive contract from the US Army to deliver a maximum of 3,600 XM2010 rifles, initially classified under this designation. These rifles, later designated Enhanced Sniper Rifles (ESRs), were intended to replace the existing M24 Sniper Weapon System and were formerly known as the M24 Reconfigured Sniper Weapon System. The delivery process commenced in January 2011, and by April 2014, the US Army received the 2,558th and final M2010 rifle as per the contracted
agreement.
