Barrett unveiled the M107A1 in January 2011 as a weight-reduced variant of the US Army's M107 long-range anti-materiel sniper rifle. An aluminium upper receiver with an integrated 27-MOA optics rail and selective use of titanium components reduce the overall weight by 1.8kg compared to the standard M107. Chambered for .50 BMG, the M107A1 retains the semi-automatic operating system and 10-round magazine of the M107 while providing improved portability for dismounted operations at extended ranges against materiel

targets and light armour.
