The 5.56mm SS2 family, launched in 2006, is a development of the SS1. Improvements include reduced shock when firing due to buffer in butt connection, cylindrical bolt for rigid locking and upper and lower receiver made of forged aluminium alloy to reduce weight. Variants include: SS2-V1 rifle with a 460mm barrel; SS2-V2 carbine with a 403mm barrel; SS2-V4 rifle with a 460mm barrel and carrying handle replaced by a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail; and SS2-V5 compact variant with a 252mm
barrel.
