The 5.56mm IA2 (IMBEL A2) assault rifle was designed by IMBEL to replace the FAL, M16A2 and HK33 weapons in service with the Brazilian Armed Forces. The design builds on IMBEL’s experience producing the FN Herstal 7.62mm FAL under licence. In October 2013, following extensive trials, the army announced that the IA2 would be accepted into service and in December placed an initial order for 20,000

weapons.
