FN Herstal developed the FN Five-seveN pistol in the 1990s to complement its FN P90 personal defence weapon – both fire a 5.7x28mm cartridge developed to provide a more efficient round than 9x19mm. The FN Five-seveN is used by military, police and security forces in more than 40 countries. Its polymer receiver is said to make the weapon 20% lighter than an equivalent steel 9mm
handgun.
