Application The K419-1/2(M) smoke grenade is used with M250, M239, M243 and similar 66MM grenade launchers to provide Visible, IR and MMW screening smoke capability for armored/tactical vehicles. The K419-1(M) grenade consists of a Visible/IR smoke payload and a Millimeter Wave smoke payload. Characteristics The grenades are loaded into the launching device. The electrical system is initiated to activate the electric match and ignites. Pressure build up in the base of the grenade body and the grenade is ejected
from the grenade body. After firing The grenade body remains in the loaded launcher. During flight of the grenade the delay element burns through and ignites the burster charge. The burning time of the delay element is approximately 1.7 seconds. The burster charge ruptures the plastic grenade body and disperses both Visible/IR smoke payload and Millimeter wave smoke payload . A salvo of grenades produces a smoke cloud approximately 30 meters forward of the launcher, seven meters high, and obscuring a front of over a 110° arc.
