MK 50 Lightweight Torpedo

Region
United States
Category
Ammunition, Missiles and precision weapons
The MK 50 torpedo was utilised by USN surface ships and aircraft and developed by Raytheon to replace the MK 46 torpedo. It was first authorised for fleet use in October 1992. The MK 50 was designed to counter the fast, deep-diving, double-hulled nuclear submarine threat. Relative to the MK 46, the MK 50 has increased range, improved counter- countermeasure logic, greater lethality, speed, depth and
endurance.
