Shyena, also designated TAL (The Advanced Light Torpedo), is an Indian lightweight anti-submarine torpedo developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory for the Indian Navy. Initially derived from the Italian A244S design, the weapon was officially launched in 2016 and is now in production at Bharat Dynamics Limited. The TAL is intended to provide the Indian Navy with a domestically sourced lightweight torpedo compatible with shipborne, airborne, and submarine launch platforms, reducing dependence on
imported systems and supporting India's defence indigenisation objectives.
