The Kord 12.7mm heavy machine gun (HMG) first entered service in 1998 to replace the 12.7mm NSV HMG. It can be used in various roles, including dismounted infantry, pintle-mounted on armoured fighting vehicles and helicopter- and boat-mounted. The Kord can be fired from a bipod and incorporates numerous improvements over the early NSV. The Kord is designed to use either 12.7x108mm Soviet/Russian or .50 BMG (12.7x99mm) NATO ammunition by changing the barrel and feed
mechanism.
