The 2A42 is a 30mm dual-feed automatic cannon developed for Soviet and Russian attack helicopters, fitted to the Mi-28N on a steerable chin turret and mounted on the right fuselage of the Ka-50 and Ka-52 series below the cockpit. The cannon can be depressed to engage targets below the helicopter's flight path, extending its effective engagement envelope in urban and terrain-masked environments. The 2A42 is also installed on a range of Russian armoured fighting vehicles including the BMP-2 and BMD-2, demonstrating
its versatility across both airborne and ground combat platforms. It fires 30x165mm ammunition at a selectable rate of fire.
