MBDA developed the Brimstone missile to provide the Royal Air Force with a precision air-to-surface weapon for the Tornado GR4. The Dual Mode Brimstone variant combines millimetre-wave radar guidance with a semi-active laser channel, giving crews the flexibility to engage targets autonomously or with laser designation depending on the tactical situation. Brimstone achieved reliability and accuracy rates above 90% in operational use over Afghanistan and Libya, and the weapon's ability to discriminate and engage
specific vehicles in moving convoys has established it as a benchmark for low-collateral precision strike munitions.
