The IRIS-T (InfraRed Imaging System Tail/Thrust Vector-Controlled) is a short-range air-to-air missile developed by Diehl BGT Defence for a consortium of NATO and partner nations as a replacement for the AIM-9 Sidewinder. The imaging infrared seeker and thrust vector control provide high off-boresight engagement capability against agile targets across all aspect angles. The IRIS-T missile has also been adapted as the guided element of the IRIS-T SL and IRIS-T SLM ground-based air defence systems, providing
360-degree protection against aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, and cruise missiles at ranges well beyond the envelope of the original air-to-air variant.
