Developed by Changhe Aircraft Industry Group, the Z-8 (known also as Z-18) is a derivative of the AC313 civil helicopter, which is itself a copy of the French Aérospatiale SA 321 Super Frelon that China imported in the 1970s. The Z-18 includes a redesigned cockpit and is likely to have a similar performance to the AC313. The aircraft is reported to have new engines, speculatively derived from the WZ-6/Safran Turmo 3C. Its variants include the Z-8A, Z-8F, Z-8K, Z-8KA, Z-8JA, Z-8JH, Z-8L and
Z-8CJ.
