AVX Aircraft proposed a compound helicopter concept featuring coaxial contra-rotating main rotors, small auxiliary wings, and twin ducted-fan propulsors for the US Army's Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstrator Future Vertical Lift programme. In April 2015, the Army extended its technology investment agreement with AVX to allow further maturation of the coaxial compound design. The configuration is intended to combine the hover efficiency and low-speed agility of a conventional helicopter with the high cruise
speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft, addressing the Army's requirement for significantly improved speed and payload over the platforms it intends to replace.
