The Y-8 (Yunshuji-8) medium-sized transport and multirole aircraft was developed by Shaanxi Aircraft Corporation and is based on the Soviet Antonov An-12. More than 36 variants have been developed since the baseline Y-8 unpressurised transport model entered production in 1981. The aircraft are powered by four Zhuzhou WJ-6 turboprops. An AEW version, designated Y-8X (see separate entry ), is also in
service.
