Kawasaki Heavy Industries developed the C-2 for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) to replace its Kawasaki C-1 and Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules fleets. The C-2 can carry more than three times the payload of the C-1 and has up to six times the range. The JASDF is expected to order 20-40 aircraft, and company officials have said that production could ramp up to four aircraft annually, depending on the rate of
orders.
