The Dassault Atlantique 2 maritime reconnaissance  aircraft is an improved version of the Breguet Atlantic,  which was developed from the 1950s onwards to meet  NATO requirements. The replacement model is a strictly French Navy programme, which uses the same basic airframe design. The programme was launched in 1978, with the ﬁrst ﬂight in May 1982. The last aircraft was delivered by Dassault Aviation  in 1997.
