The JH-7 Flying Leopard (NATO reporting name Flounder) is a multirole fighter/bomber aircraft that was developed by China to replace its ageing H-5 and Q-5 aircraft. It performed its maiden flight on 14 December 1988 and entered service with the PLAAF and the PLAN in 1992. The upgraded JH-7A variant began production in 2004. The JH-7 is powered by two Xian WS9 afterburning turbofans, licence-built versions of Spey Mk202
