Norinco announced in 2014 that it had completed development of the Type GCZ110 armoured engineer vehicle based on a modified Type 79 tank chassis equipped with a dozer blade, crane and winch. The suspension has been changed to six wheels on each track like the Type 96 tank as opposed to the five wheels on the Type 79. It is believed it uses the 730hp 12150L-7BW diesel engine used in the Type 79. The Type 79’s turret has been removed and replaced with a hydraulically operated crane. This has a telescopic jib, which
can extend to 3.5m and lift a maximum weight of 16t.
