The ZBD-04 is a fully amphibious tracked IFV that entered service with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in 2006. Based on the Russian BMP-3 design, it shares many of the same features introduced with its Russian predecessor, including a near-identical turret armed with a 100mm smoothbore gun, coaxial 30mm cannon and coaxial 7.62mm machine gun. In 2014, an improved ZBD-04A variant with an appliqué armour package, improved fire control system and a battlefield management system was introduced into PLA
service.
