The BMP-2 tracked amphibious IFV entered Soviet Army service in 1980. While it utilises the same hull as the BMP-1, it is equipped with a different two-man turret armed with a stabilised dual-feed 2A42 30mm automatic cannon and a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun. Large numbers of the BMP-2 were manufactured in the Soviet Union, many of which were subsequently exported around the world. It is also manufactured under licence in India as the
Sarath.
