The Griffin III is a technology demonstrator unveiled by General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) at AUSA 2018 to showcase some of the technology that could be integrated into the US Army’s next tracked IFV. Based on the hull utilised by the British Army’s Ajax tracked vehicle family, the vehicle can accommodate six dismounts and can be operated by a crew of just two people. It was displayed armed with an experimental 50mm cannon mounted in a new purpose-built turret. Although the Griffin III was intended to inform
future requirements for the US Army’s Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) programme, GDLS did not enter it into the competition. Instead, the company manufactured a new prototype that resembled the Griffin III in many respects, though the first incarnation of the OMFV programme was ultimately cancelled in January 2020.
