BAE Systems’ Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) was developed in response to a US Army requirement for a platform to replace the ageing M113 APCs in service with its Armored Brigade Combat Teams (ABCTs). Based on a modified Bradley Fighting Vehicle hull, the AMPV not only has a higher level of protection and more mobility than the M113, but it also shares common automotive components with the Bradley and the M109A7 self-propelled howitzer. If the programme is exercised to its full extent, 2,897 AMPVs will be
procured in five different variants by the US Army.
