Designed by Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group, a subsidiary of Aviation Industry Corporation of China, the Wing Loong I is the first variant of the Wing Loong (Pterodactyl) family. Designed for persistent ISTAR, electronic countermeasures and strike applications, the UAV was unveiled at the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in November 2012. The platform has two variants; the Wing Loong ID, an export variant of the platform, and the Wing Loong IE, an upgraded variant that conducted its maiden
flight in January 2022.
