The T-80BVM is a Russian modernisation programme for the T-80BV main battle tank, developed to extend the service life of legacy Soviet-era armour while the delayed T-14 Armata programme matures. The upgrade improves firepower, protection, and mobility, bringing T-80BV tanks closer to the capability standard of contemporary Russian tank designs. Key enhancements include installation of the Relikt explosive reactive armour system, an upgraded fire control system with improved thermal imaging, a more powerful
engine, and a revised defensive aids suite — collectively extending the T-80BVM's operational relevance through the coming decades.
