Type 96/ZTZ-96/VT2

The Type 96 (also known as the ZTZ-96, Type 88C or its export designation VT2) is a second-generation MBT that forms the backbone of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army MBT fleet. Though it shares many design elements with previous Chinese MBTs, it also features a 125mm smoothbore cannon mounted in a new welded turret and an advanced fire control system. Since its introduction into service in 1996, the Type 96 has been upgraded to the Type 96A and Type 96B standards through the addition of extra armour, a more
