The US Army selected the Oshkosh Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (L-ATV) design for its 4x4 Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) project in 2015 to replace many of its HMMWVs. Oshkosh was awarded a $6.7 billion low-rate initial production contract to supply up to 16,901 JLTVs and, after some delays, the full-rate production decision was approved in June 2019. In total, the US Army is seeking up to 49,099 JLTVs through to 2040, while the USMC wants 5,500 vehicles by
2022.
